Lethbridge teen charged in sexual assault of 45-year-old woman

A 17-year-old male has been charged in connection with a violent sexual assault on a woman in Lethbridge early Sunday morning.

Lethbridge police say the teen entered through patio doors to the home where the 45-year-old woman was sleeping.

He began sexually assaulting her, according to police, then dragged the woman outside where he continued to sexually assault her before cutting her throat and fleeing the scene.

The victim was transported to hospital for immediate surgery. She remains in hospital in serious, but stable condition.

Police say the male was identified and located because he knew the victim's family. He has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, unlawful confinement, break and enter and uttering threats.

A recent triple homicide in Lethbridge has no connection to this incident, police say.
