A man from Lethbridge, Alta., has died, RCMP say, following reports of a car driving on the wrong side of the highway.

Raymond/Magrath RCMP say they received a report of a car driving south in the northbound lane of Highway 5 near Cardston County on Tuesday at around 11:20 p.m.

Upon investigation, RCMP say they came across several vehicles stopped at the curve in the highway, about a kilometre south of the intersection of Highway 5 and Highway 52. Police found a car in the west ditch.

Early investigation indicates the car was going south in the correct lane prior to leaving the roadway. Police said the driver failed to negotiate the curve and lost control. The vehicle rolled and ended up in the ditch.

Magrath Fire and EMS declared a 65-year-old man from Lethbridge dead at the scene.

An RCMP collision analyst is investigating.

The name of the deceased will not be released and no further updates are anticipated, RCMP say.
