Lewis Capaldi had a pithy response to a critic who tried to shame him for drinking at the Brit Awards.

The Scottish singer-songwriter, who took home Best New Artist and Best Song at this year’s ceremony, brought a bottle of Buckfast with him as he collected his second prize of the night.

Labour activist Leah Franchetti tweeted a photo of Capaldi from the night with the caption: “We have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol in Scotland. This doesn’t help. We have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol in Scotland. This doesn’t help. We have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol in Scotland. This doesn’t help.”

Capaldi responded with the sarcastic tweet: “Imagine having a drink on my first night off in months after winning two Brit awards, can you believe it?!”

His success at the Brits was preceded by the announcement that he would perform the final show of his Divinely Uninspired tour at the O2 Arena in London.

Capaldi also has a previously announced spring UK and Ireland arena tour, as well as dates in North America supporting Niall Horan and summer festival appearances in the UK and Europe.

Tickets for the O2 Arena show go on general sale at 11am on Friday 21 February.
