Lexington traffic: New Circle Road reopens after collision involving moped, Cybertruck

New Circle Road was shut down for a time Tuesday afternoon as police responded to a crash involving a moped near the intersection with North Broadway.

The outer loop of New Circle was shut down at Old Paris Road, and straight lanes on the inner loop were diverted onto Broadway, according to Lexwrecks, the social media account of the Lexington Traffic Management Center.

The collision was reported at 2:16 p.m., said Lt. Brandon Helm of the Lexington Police Department. All lanes had reopened before 4 p.m.

The operator of the moped was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A Tesla Cybertruck was also involved in the collision, WKYT reported.

Helm said the police department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating.

Fayette County Public Schools sent a voice message to families, warning that buses might be late Tuesday afternoon because of “two major accidents that do not involve us,” as well as construction around Lexington.

Palumbo Drive also was shut down between Codell Drive and Old Todds Road because of a crash Tuesday afternoon.

Helm said the two-vehicle crash on the 2500 block of Palumbo Drive was reported at 2:54 p.m. Both drivers were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening.

Helm said all lanes of Palumbo Drive had reopened by 5:30 p.m.

A non-injury wreck was reported on Interstate 75 South near the 112 mile marker Tuesday afternoon, and at least one lane was blocked, according to Lexwrecks.
