Life After Death: Vivienne Westwood’s Infamous "Garage Glam" Makeup Moments Were Recreated for Paris Fashion Week

Arguably, Vivienne Westwood is the mother of what beauty enthusiasts refer to as "Garage Glam." When it came to the makeup looks that you'd see on the icon herself on the runway, there could be anything out of the ordinary from smeared eyeliner looks to historical context as she knew that beauty routines themselves started with HERstory. Keeping the tradition alive at Paris Fashion Week, Westwood's husband, Andreas Kronthaler honored her beauty legacy at his show following her passing in late 2022.

For the Fall/Winter 2023 presentation, only famed makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench was called on to recreate the exact makeup looks Westwood had donned on herself over the years, applied in the same format as she did. With hero products from Ffrench's namesake brand, angled brushes we used to draw on irregular lines across the nose bones, followed by skinny brows and half lip liner looks. When the models hit the runway, there was a beautiful display of perfectly disheveled glam from messy eyeshadows and wonky features just as Westwood would have wanted.

Kronthaler's presentation was a wonderful tribute to Vivienne Westwood's legacy, speaking to how life will continue for the departed always and forever more.
