Lily Collins Takes Back What She Said About Her “Emily In Paris” Character Being 22

[UPDATE 10/19/20 1:48 PM]: Lily Collins is taking back what she said about her Emily in Paris character. The actress took to Instagram to say that she was wrong when she assumed in a recent interview that Emily is 22 in the series.

"Emily looking at me when I get her age wrong 😂," she captioned a photo of her character giving some major side eye. "Sorry girl." Lily continued, writing, "You might not be 22, but I gotta say — you do act like it sometimes!!!"

Lucas Bravo, who plays Gabriel on the show also weighed in on the age debate. "I would say she's probably 24," the actor told E! News. "Something happens after 26 where women start exploring...in terms of personality. I feel like she's still very strong willed and she has certainties, but yeah I would say [that she is] around 24."

OK, that is a little more believable, but personally, I might still go older.

Original post: Pretty much everyone and their mother is talking about Emily in Paris right now. Some people love it, others love to hate it, but everyone is watching it. That means you've probably had a million convos with your friends about the show, like where Emily got that absolutely adorably pink coat or whether there will be a season two. One thing you might still be wondering, though, is how old is Emily actually supposed to be? Well, Lily Collins aka the Emily just answered the question and her response is...surprising.

"I don’t believe we’ve ever given her a specific 'number' for her age, but I believe that she’s pretty fresh out of college," Lily told British Vogue recently. "Maybe this is her first year after graduation. I want to say she’s like, 22-ish. She’s had enough experience at her company in Chicago to have earned the respect of her boss. She’s a smart cookie and really innovative – and this is not her first rodeo doing what she does. She’s gone to school for this, and she’s completed internships."

Lily, who's 31, emphasized that this is definitely one of the first times that Emiy has left America. "She’s not the person who travelled during college. She was really, really focused on her jobs in the Midwest, and I don’t think she’s been abroad...Her only real experience of Europe is through movies and TV."

Fans of the show were immediately confused by Lily's answer. For one thing, an assistant of one-year wouldn't get to take her boss' place and be able to move to Paris like Emily did when her boss got pregnant. We also know that Emily has a master's degree in marketing. So, unless she graduated college at like 19, there's no way she's only 22.

Another fan pointed out that a 22-year-old wouldn't normally have as much agency at such a high-end company like Savoir. "French cliches aside the greatest sin of Emily in Paris is pretending a 22-year-old can just post whatever *~content~* she wants on a global brand’s account without going though 67 layers of approval first lmaoooo."

Others on Twitter also tried to make sense of Emily's supposed age, but seemingly failed to do so.

One fan did some calculations and came up with what seems like a more accurate age for Emily.

Of course, Emily could be a marketing genius who soared through college and rose up the ranks of her Chicago marketing agency in no time, we just don't know. But I'm going to go ahead and assume she has a few more years under her belt.
