Lindsay Lohan Says “Freaky Friday” Sequel Is a ‘Love Letter’ to Iconic Movie House that Burned Down

Freakier Friday is sentimental for Lindsay Lohan in more ways than one.
Ahead of the highly-anticipated Freaky Friday sequel hitting theaters on Aug. 8, Lohan, 38, opened up to Chloe Fineman for a May 27 interview with Elle about filming the upcoming movie in Los Angeles.
The actress — who stars in the remake of the 2003 classic alongside Jamie Lee Curtis — told Fineman that the sequel feels like a tribute to the areas impacted by the tragic wildfires that swept through L.A. in January.
The property that was used as her character Anna Coleman's home in the original movie sadly burned down during the natural disaster.
“The film is such an homage to California after the fires, because we shot a lot in the Palisades and in Malibu,” Lohan said. “Even the house — the original Freaky Friday house — unfortunately, is gone. So I think it’ll be a really nice love letter.”

The deadly blaze burned approximately 23,448 acres, according to CAL FIRE, and the cause is still under investigation.
In response to Fineman asking if it felt “special” to be back filming in L.A., Lohan responded: “Yeah. For the crew, they’re so excited to be working here, where they go back home to their families. That’s the difference you feel here. It’s nice.”

Referring to her son Luai, whom she welcomed in 2023 with husband Bader Shammas, she added, “I made it home every night, except for one, to tuck my son in. And it shows in the film — when you’re happy behind the scenes, that comes through.”

A number of familiar faces will be returning for the sequel, including Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao.
Some new faces will also be added to the franchise, including Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Sophia Hammons.
