Line Of Dutys Anna Maxwell Martin has given her verdict on the divisive series six finale - and teased what lies in store for AC-12 going forward.

The gripping cop drama, based around a team of detectives fighting corruption in the police force, saw 12.8 million viewers tune into BBC One for its latest finale episode.

The episode promised to finally reveal the mysterious ‘Fourth Man’, aka H, who had been pulling the strings for an organised crime group from within the force.

But viewers were disappointed to discover it was bumbling DSU Ian Buckells, with the final interrogation seeing the criminal snarkily comment that he had "made mugs" out of the team.

Maxwell Martin played the cold and callous DCS Patricia Carmichael, who threw a spanner in the works of AC-12 by taking over investigations.

And, despite fan reaction, she has said that she thought the final big reveal was a perfect outcome for the Jed Mercurio-written drama.

“My friends were quite mixed, some of them loved the ending because they felt it was open for new stuff,” she told Grazia magazine.

“I liked that it was Nigel, I’ve always thought he’s hilarious.”

However, Maxwell Martin added she’s yet to see the finished product because she’s currently away filming and her hotel TV is broken.

With the central mystery now solved, viewers have been keen to find out whether Line Of Duty will ever return – as the final moments of the series seemed so final.

Neither Mercurio or the BBC have confirmed or denied future plans for the show and Maxwell Martin appears just as oblivious as the rest of us.

“I wouldn’t know and I would never be told,” she said, later adding: “I’m not in with the in-crowd there and I’m not sure the in-crowd even knows.”

Line Of Duty is available on BBC iPlayer.
