Eagle-eyed Line of Duty fans appear to have uncovered a clue about the latest series hidden in plain sight. The tiny but disturbing detail about Jo Davidson’s family tree was spotted on a post-it note in the background of a scene.

During the most recent episode, fans discovered the answer to the episode four cliffhanger when it was revealed that Jo Davidson, played by Kelly MacDonald, was related to organised crime gang member Tommy Hunter.

While the show didn’t definitively reveal how Hunter and Davidson are related, eagle-eyed viewers spotted a post-it note, next to a picture of Hunter that reveals details that are yet to be explicitly stated in the show.

It reads: “Jo Davidson’s DNA has been identified at Farida Jatri’s house. A match has been made to TOMMY HUNTER, stating she is both his niece and daughter.”

Hunter was the leader of the organised crime group, or OCG.

He was a paedophile who groomed DI Matthew Cottan to be his man on the inside with AC-12. He played a central role in the first season of the BBC cop show, and was killed by the gang in the second season.

This new revelation suggests that Davidson was born as a result of incest between her mother and Tommy Hunter.

The latest episode of Line of Duty similarly ended with a huge cliffhanger, as we saw DI Kate Fleming played by Vicky McClure and PC Ryan Pilkington played by Gregory Piper in a highly charged standoff as they both stood with pointed guns.

The sounds of two gunshots are heard before the infamous credit music rolled.

Since the beginning of this series, Davidson has been very tight-lipped about her family.

However, a photo in the safe house she returns to each night, of her as a young girl and a woman believed to be her mother, seems to spark rage every time she sees it.

We saw her throw at glass at it towards the end of an earlier episode.

Furthermore, in true Line Of Duty style, we are seeing Davidson increasingly being manipulated on a chat room by a mystery individual who appears to be linked to the H, the crime syndicate made up of four ‘bent coppers’ and the greatest mystery of them all.

This mystery individual was the one to instigate the potential killing of Fleming, as Davidson lured her to the lorry park to be possibly be shot by Pilkington.

With Hunter's death never actually being played out on-screen, could writer Jed Mercurio actually have kept him alive and he is the one calling the shots?
