Brooke James was devastated when 18 of her classmates refused to attend her birthday because she was “too fat.”

Now, thanks to the power of social media, a group of plus-size beauty queens are rallying behind the 10 year-old, and raising money to throw Brooke an epic princess party that she’ll never forget.

“When only two people said they wanted to come to Brooke’s party I cried, I was so disappointed for her,” said Brooke’s mom Chrissy in an interview with the Daily Mail. “It’s a swimming party and she told me they said she was fat and would look like a whale in her costume so they didn’t want to be there.”

Unfortunately, the birthday incident is just one of many examples of the bullying the South London girl has experienced at school. “’Brooke has precocious puberty which has caused her to grow and develop more than the other girls her age and that’s horrible for her, especially when everyone gets changed together for PE, because she gets a lot of teasing and body shaming,” revealed Chrissy.

After a Facebook appeal for birthday wishes by Brooke’s aunt went viral, a group of body-positive beauty queens from Miss British Beauty Curve launched Operation Brooke’s Birthday – an online campaign to throw Brooke the ultimate birthday bash.

“’It broke our hearts to hear that such a young girl has started to believe in the idea that being fat is an unlikable trait,’ said Emily Diapre, one of the models involved in the campaign. “’She believes people won’t come to her party because she is fat so nobody likes her. No-one should ever feel like that, especially not a 10-year-old,” Diapre adds. “We wanted to show her that fat is beautiful, it isn’t a dirty word and we should embrace ourselves.

Having already raised nearly $1,000 CAD through their Go Fund Me account, Brooke and her mom will be heading to the first Miss Curve International pageant in Kent, England on Oct. 21 for her day of pampering. “We’re planning to give this little queen her own sash, crown and title – as well as lots of other surprises – so she can feel as fierce as we do!”

“She was so upset about her party, unkind people made her feel very low, but what the Miss British Beauty Curve queens have done is completely overwhelming,” said Chrissy. “’The best thing will be seeing her smile and her knowing how beautiful she really is. Inside, she is so sweet and kind but people don’t judge her by that, they judge her by the way she looks and that’s horrible and so unfair.”
