Little girl throws Derek Jeter foul ball back on field

Who wouldn’t want a ball, hit fair or foul, off the bat of retiring New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter?

During his 20-year major league career, the 40-year-old has only been an all-star 14 times, a .310 career hitter, five-time World Series champion, five-time Gold Glove shortstop and 1996 American League rookie of the year.

But that mattered little to a young girl among the Yankee Stadium crowd of 40,059 on Friday night.

In the seventh inning, Jeter fouled off a pitch from Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Todd Redmond that third baseman Danny Valencia scooped up and tossed in the direction of a man who had one of his daughters in his arms.

After posing for a few pictures, the man handed the ball to another daughter that was standing to his left.

Unaware of the ball’s sentimental value to her father, the girl immediately hurled it back on the field as her shocked parents looked on.
