Little Mix The Search has added a new string to the bow of Little Mix singers Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jesy Nelson and Perrie Edwards, as they take on the roles of talent show judges and mentors.

The group's reality show follows their attempts to find a support band for their 2021 Confetti live tour, with the live shows beginning yesterday (October 25).

The first live show saw band Jasper Blue – consisting of Rosie Mac, Melina Halpin, Liam McHugh and Jordan Smithy – sent home after a tough sing-off against girl group Melladaze.

But prior to their elimination the group spoke to Metro.co.uk about their experience on the show and they revealed that Little Mix are just as supportive to the contestants behind-the-scenes as they are when the cameras are rolling.

"Zoom calls are great," said Rosie, who used to work on Game of Thrones as a body double for Daenerys Targaryen actress Emilia Clarke. "They're always so encouraging on the Zoom calls and support through this time like, we're lucky they're mentors."

Liam added that Little Mix would never "switch off" during filming breaks but would instead "come up to us" and chat to the contestants.

"Everything continued like their help and support and their mentoring, they were just doing it because, you know, they love to do it," he said.

And Melina added that she enjoyed a bonding moment with Jade after the 'Holiday' singer noticed that they both love crystals.

"Throughout my whole audition I had loads of crystals on me that bring me loads of luck and I think Jade must have seen me like gripping tight on one," she said. "And she came up to me and was like, 'Make sure you go home and wash them'. That was such a special moment because Jade is huge on crystals."

Sadly Jasper Blue are now out of the competition following the first live show but Little Mix have continued to show their support for the band, with Jade commenting on one of the band's Instagram posts with: "Love you guys so much ... you have our support ALWAYS".

There are still five bands remaining in the competition hoping to win the chance to support Little Mix, each in a different category – rap and R&B, boyband, vocal and instruments, girl vocal and girl dance.

The first live show had been postponed by a week after several crew members tested positive for COVID-19 and Jade actually had to miss the show as she was isolating at home for unspecified reasons, but she still took part via video link and offered her comments.

Little Mix The Search continues on Saturday (October 31) on BBC One.
