    Singapore home prices rose for fourth straight quarter – albeit lower than estimated – despite sales slowing.

    For private rents, it dropped for the third consecutive quarter, although they still remain elevated after a more than 50 per cent increase over the last four years.

    Despite cooling measures, home prices continue to be a challenge for Prime Minister Lawrence Wong ahead of a general election that has to be called by November 2025.

    The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) Services Centre will be stopping Saturday services.

    According to a press release on Thursday (July 25), the services centre will only be open from Monday to Friday (except public holidays), instead of Monday to mid-day Saturday. The operating hours on the weekdays remain unchanged, from 8.00am to 4.30pm.

    The change was attributed to the digital transformation of its services, causing physical visits to drop by about 50 per cent from 2019 to 2023. Today, close to 95 per cent of ICA’s customers submit their applications online.

    There's growing concern among Singapore consumers about how AI and deepfakes could potentially influence the next elections.

    According to a research that involved more than 8,000 adult consumers, split evenly across the United Kingdom, United States, Singapore and Mexico, 83% of Singapore consumers are worried about AI and deepfakes.

    More Singapore consumers are also sceptical of the content they see online, but a whopping 66 per cent also say they trust political news they see online despite the possibility of encountering deepfakes.

    The lineup of performers at Singapore F1 has been announced and there's definitely some serious star power.

    Iconic Australian pop star Kylie Minogue will be taking the Main Stage and it'll mark her return to Singapore after eight years.

    Other acts on the Main Stage include Lenny Kravitz, American pop rock band OneRepublic, and The Corrs.

    Notably, the latter reunited in 2022 after five years for a one-time performance in Australia. Due to the success, they subsequently announced a tour in Australia and New Zealand. They have since added dates for Jakarta and Indonesia.

    Car thieves in Johor can steal your car in about the same amount of time it takes to make your bed – 30 seconds.

    The Johor police chief said there are other syndicates operating, but one in particular targets luxury and four-wheel drive vehicles.

    They are tech-savvy and use a jammer "to disable the vehicle’s global positioning system (GPS) and alarm system within 30 seconds".

    He added, "Among the syndicate’s preferred models were Toyota Hilux, Toyota Alphard, Toyota Vellfire and Toyota Fortuner."

    VIDEO: British man walks 11 hours across Singapore just to eat Carl's Jr

    A British man, Sam Lynas, trekked across Singapore to visit all five Carl's Jr outlets on July 1.

    The journey spanned 40.7km and took him 11 hours. He documented his adventure in a YouTube video which was uploaded on July 10.

    Lynas started off at Joo Chiat Road in the morning and made his way towards the branch at SingPost Centre for his first meal. His second stop was Marina Square, but he also took the time to visit places such as Geylang and the Formula One Pit Building.

    After the visit to the Marina Square branch, Lynas said he was "struggling a bit" with the food. He then continue walking towards The Star Vista, arriving at around 5pm.

    His penultimate stop was King Albert Park and he reached at around 6pm. At this branch, he picked up some chicken tenders before embarking on the last 10km towards Jurong Point. Lynas also said he had developed blisters on his feet by this point.

    At the final destination, he just ordered some ice cream.

    Lynas told a local publication that he did this because he just really likes eating burgers. He also wanted to share some of his favourite places in Singapore and realised that the Carl's Jr outlets were "really nicely spread out".

    Will he do it again? Well, you'll just have to watch the video to find out.

    Grab will no longer buy Trans-cab, according to a statement released by the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) on Thursday (July 25) evening.

    The CCCS launched an in-depth review on the proposed acquisition in January this year. In July, it called on both Grab and Trans-cab for solutions to address competition concerns.

    CCCS also pointed out that the deal could result in higher prices for consumers and lesser options.

    Mega pop star Taylor Swift has yet to endorse anyone in the 2024 US presidential race. There is a blank space and she has yet to write a name.

    While she is able to get the foreign governments to clamour for a slice of The Eras Tour economy pie, Swift alone won't be able to decide the outcome of the election. But, her voice will be a major influence.

    In the meantime, her fans, or Swifties as they're known, have begun rallying around Kamala Harris and decided she is a 'Reputation-era girl'. They're also calling on Swift to back Harris.

    Swift previously supported Joe Biden and Harris during the 2020 election and public spoke out against Trump.

    Was it a bullet? A shrapnel?

    As investigations are underway about attempted assassination of Trump, the FBI has said there is "some question" about how the injury occurred.

    In a testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday (July 24), FBI director Christopher Wray said, "With respect to former President Trump, there's some question about whether or not it's a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear."

    Wray also believes that the FBI has "accounted for all the shots in the cartridges".

    Meanwhile, Trump has publicly said he was struck by a bullet.

    Food supply and preparation of food have become an issue at the Paris Olympics.

    This has resulted in athletes bringing packed meals back to the Village for lunch and dinner, according to UK media.

    It was reported that British athletes are avoiding the restaurants in the Village and an extra chef has been dispatched to Paris to prepare proper meals for the team.

    A Cathay Pacific flight from Sydney to Hong Kong was unable to proceed after one of its pilots allegedly failed an alcohol breath test.

    The news was first reported by South China Morning Post.

    The flight was supposed to depart on 7.35am Wednesday (July 24) morning but was delayed till 10.35am on Thursday instead.

    Cathay Pacific also released a statement saying they were "aware of the reports and we are maintaining close communication with the relevant authorities".

    Hong Kong tycoon Jimmy Lai will testify to defend himself in a high-profile national security case.

    This case was brought under the Beijing-imposed national security law used to crack down on dissent following the 2019 protests.

    Lai is accused of colluding with foreign forces to endanger national security, and also faces one charge of conspiring to publish seditious information.

    If found guilty, Lai could be jailed for life.

    Lai had argued that there was no case as the government failed to provide sufficient evidence. However, the judges overseeing the trial ruled otherwise.

  • Whale capsizes boat in US, sending passengers into water

    A trip out to the sea went awry when a small fishing boat met an angry whale in the waters of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

    In a video circulating on X, the whale can be seen breaching before coming down on the boat, flipping it on its side and sending its passengers into the water.

    The video was captured by two brothers, and one of them, upon seeing this happen, immediately dropped his fishing rod and starting to drive his boat away.

    A surfer was attacked by a shark in the water off North Shore Beach in Port Macquarie.

    It was reported that the surfer, 23-year-old Kai McKenzie, lost his leg in his attempt to fight it off. Fortunately, he managed to escape, making his way back to the beach while bleeding heavily. McKenzie received assistance from a retired police officer and was taken to the hospital.

    The severed leg also somehow washed up on an Australian beach and was brought to the same hospital in case the doctors are able to reattach it.
