Singapore, Thailand to collaborate in new areas including carbon credits and food security
Singapore and Thailand are set to collaborate in new areas such as carbon credits and food security.
The developments were shared at a joint press conference between Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on 28 November.
“Thailand itself is stepping up its production of green power, including hydrogen and biofuels. So we can work towards an implementation agreement on carbon credits collaboration, which would open up new opportunities for our companies,” said PM Wong.
Wong is in Thailand at the invitation of Shinawatra and is the first foreign leader to visit since her appointment in August.
Another area discussed between the two leaders was food security – a priority issue for Thailand.
“This is also important for Singapore, as we import most of what we consume, and we are continually looking to enhance our food security. So, I am happy that both sides have agreed to come together, discuss ways in which we can strengthen our collaboration in this area,” Wong said.
