Hey now, hey now! After weeks of uncertainty over at Disney+, Lizzie McGuire creator Terri Minsky has shared her hopes for the series' future – and, surprisingly, Disney doesn't feature.

Minsky's comments come just days after Lizzie herself, Hilary Duff, alluded to the creative differences that halted production of the reboot, suggesting that the original vision for Lizzie McGuire's comeback hadn't been family-friendly enough for Disney.

Speaking to Variety about the two completed episodes of the revival, and where she thinks the likes of Lizzie and Gordo should go next, Minsky name-checked a rival subscription service.

"I would love the show to exist, but ideally I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing," she admitted.

"I am so proud of the two episodes we did. Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen... It's important to me that this show was important to people. I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion."

Before Disney+ confirmed that it would be putting a "new lens" on the series, which was originally set to follow Lizzie in her 30s, the official synopsis for Lizzie McGuire read: "She seemingly has it all – her dream job as an assistant to a fancy New York City decorator, her dream guy and a picturesque Brooklyn apartment – but things aren't always as they seem.

"With a little help from her friends, her loving family and her 13-year-old alter ego in animated form, Lizzie navigates the ups and downs of adulthood."

Disney+ is now available in the US and will launch on March 24 in the UK.
