A local summer camp is looking to raise funds to help cover pandemic related losses and upgrade facilities.

Due to COVID-19, Camp Vincent was unable to open for their 49th summer. They are hopeful, with the help of the community, they can celebrate their 50th birthday this summer.

According to their Facebook page, Camp Vincent, a Bothwell area summer camp run by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, has a goal to collect $100,000 by March.

The camp is currently in a call to action stage and looking to raise funds via its website at www.campvincent.com.

The fundraising efforts will include a video campaign produced with Exordia Creative to be released in the coming weeks.

“We are looking for a few kids to share their experience at camp on camera for our fundraising video. Message us if your child might be interested!” reads a post made to their public Facebook page.

The camp brings back fond memories for many, including Morgan Swift.

“Camp Vincent is so special and means so much to me,” said Swift. “I was a camper here every summer from ages 7 to 15 and a lifeguard for three summers after. I have endless happy memories and still have amazing friendships from camp.”

According to Swift, Camp Vincent is a wonderful summer camp as they welcome all children from all walks of life, regardless of social, financial, or faith backgrounds.

“Every child deserves the opportunity to experience all of the benefits summer camp offers,” said Swift.

In fact, Swift believes so strongly in children attending camp that she sponsored a child to attend Camp Vincent in lieu of favours at her wedding.

The funds raised will support upgrades to the nursing station, the electrical system, the dock for the canoe pond, and the basketball and volleyball courts and help repaint the cabins.

Updates to the campaign will be posted on the Camp Vincent Facebook page at www.facebook.com/campvincent.
