Lockdown at Midlands Tech campus ends in arrest. Here’s what we know

One person has been arrested after an incident Friday at Columbia’s Midlands Technical College that led the school to briefly go on lockdown.

No one was harmed in the incident, which has now been resolved, said Stefanie Caraviello-Goebeler, vice president of marketing for the college.

An individual on the Beltline Boulevard campus became physically violent and had to be detained, Caraviello-Goebeler said. There was no weapon and no injuries but there was property damage, she said.

The individual responsible is in custody and the investigation is ongoing. The lockdown at the school was lifted a short time later.

The Midlands Technical College Police Department responded to the incident with assistance from the Columbia Police Department.
