Long weekend camping sites still possible, Alberta Parks says

If you're hoping to go camping this weekend but forgot to reserve a site, provincial officials say there's still hope.

"Our more popular campgrounds are showing few vacancies," Alberta Parks spokesman Tim Chamberlain told CBC News.

"That's to be expected at the start of a long weekend, but people should still visit our vacancy calendar and online registry website at AlbertaParks.ca just to check."

Chamberlain stresses that most of the campsites in Alberta's 250 provincial parks are first-come first-serve.

But if you can't get a spot, Chamberlin said, many so-called day-use areas are available.

"The majority of our provincial campgrounds offered day use so people can show up and still connect with nature in Alberta Parks," he said.
