Longtime Pasco official leaving the city to join Hanford site waste tanks contractor
After 13 years with the city and more than two decades with municipal governments, Pasco’s digital media administrator, Jon Funfar, is leaving for a new role at the Hanford site.
Funfar’s new role as communications specialist will be at Washington River Protection Solutions, the Department of Energy’s contractor that manages 56 million gallons of radioactive waste stored in 177 underground tanks at the defunct nuclear site.
“I’m beyond excited to join an amazing team of communicators at WRPS and contribute to such an important mission,” he wrote in a recent post to LinkedIn.
Funfar’s role at Pasco focused on “enhancing communication through video production, media relations and digital platform management.”
He told the Herald his last day is Jan. 10 and he begins his new role with WRPS the week of Jan. 20.
