Longueuil police officer injured in collision

A Longueuil police officer has been transported to hospital after her car collided with another vehicle.

It happened at 6:49 a.m. on Friday at the intersection of Chambly Road and Cherbourg Street, according to Longueuil police.

Police spokesman Mark David said the squad car was going southbound, responding to an emergency call. The car's lights were flashing and its siren was on.

He said the collision happened as one car tried to change lanes. From there, the police car lost control and hit a gas pipe, breaking it.

Both the officer and the woman driving the other vehicle were transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Firefighters fixed the gas leak quickly without incident.
