A look back at astronaut Buzz Aldrin's patriotic fashion

This Saturday, July 20th, America will be remembering the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing, where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first men on the moon and firmly cemented themselves in our history books.

When people think of Buzz, a few things probably come to mind immediately: astronaut, scientist, pioneer for space exploration, fighter pilot, the list goes on. But one aspect of Aldrin's life that might slip through the cracks of the usual lens that he is seen through is that is a type of style icon. Stay with us here.

Over the years, Buzz has been a fixture in the scientific community, especially as an advocate for a mission to Mars, and at most meetings, galas and public events, he has shown up in his finest patriotic apparel.

From bomber jackets emblazoned with NASA patches to shirts with messages like "Get your a** to Mars," Buzz has never been shy about publicly toting his feelings about the important of space travel. He has also worn a variety of space-themed ties to add a little flare to his suits -- think seals from different space missions, images of colorful planets, moons and stars, and, of course, a few renditions of the American flag.

Buzz is an American hero, a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and our new favorite style icon.
