Dodgers fans celebrate World Series title in Los Angeles amid COVID-19 warnings, spike
The Los Angeles Dodgers secured their first World Series title in 32 years on Tuesday night after they beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 in Game 6 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Despite warnings from local officials and a new spike in COVID-19 cases, Dodgers fans in Los Angeles took to the streets to celebrate their title accordingly.

Officials warned of COVID-19 spike
The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Miami Heat to claim their 17th NBA title earlier this month, which sparked similar celebrations in Los Angeles.
On Monday, Los Angeles County health officials partially blamed those celebrations and watch parties for a spike in cases in the area. The county was averaging just under 1,000 new cases a day in early October, but spiked to nearly 1,200 new cases a day late last week. It also officially surpassed more than 300,000 total cases and 7,000 total deaths on Monday, too.
Cases have been spiking nationally, too. The country is averaging more than 71,000 new cases a day over the past week, a new all-time record, according to The New York Times, and reported more than 74,000 new cases on Monday alone.
With the Dodgers potential win looming in the future, health officials warned Dodgers fans against celebrating in public.
“As fans continue to watch and celebrate the mighty LA sport teams, we are mindful that if individuals are not adhering to the health officer order requirements of distancing, infection control and masking, cases will continue to rise which, unfortunately, not only leads to increased illness and death, but also slows down our recovery journey,” the county health department said in a statement.
Clearly, that didn’t happen.
