Lotto Max draws for 2020 are off to a massive start with an estimated record-breaking $70 million jackpot up for grabs.

The Friday event also has 10 additional Maxmillions prizes worth an estimated $1 million each.

“This Friday’s Lotto Max jackpot is the biggest-ever offered in Canada!” Randy Weyersberg, OLG VP of brand and marketing said in a statement. “With a $70 million jackpot up for grabs, Lotto Max players can really dream BIG!”

To date, the largest jackpot won in Canada totalled $65 million, which occurred twice in the country’s lottery history. One ticket was sold in Quebec in June 2019 and the other was purchased in Western Canada in October of the same year.

In B.C., lottery players claimed $785 million in winnings in 2019, with over $230 million in Lotto Max prizes.

“Playing the lottery is about the chance to have life-changing dreams come true and this year’s record-breaking amount of winnings has delivered bigger dreams than ever before for our players,” Kevin Gass, BCLC’s VP of lottery gaming said in a statement. “Our players won more than 86 million times in British Columbia in 2019 – now that’s something to celebrate.”

There were 16 Lotto Max jackpot wins in 2019 and since its launch in September 2009, Ontario Lotto Max players have won over $5 billion, with 66 jackpot wins.

The draws occur twice a week, Tuesdays and Fridays, and cost five dollars a play. If you’re thinking of trying your luck to win $70 million on Friday, you need to purchase your ticket online or at an authorized retailer by 10:30 p.m. ET on Jan. 3.
