LSU coach Ed Orgeron doesn't think QB Myles Brennan will play vs. South Carolina

LSU got an unexpected off week last weekend. But it doesn’t look like QB Myles Brennan will be able to play against South Carolina despite the rest.

Tigers coach Ed Orgeron said on his Wednesday teleconference that he didn’t think Brennan would be able to take the field on Saturday. While a final decision on Brennan’s status will be made later in the week, LSU clearly isn’t optimistic about having the redshirt junior on the field against the Gamecocks.

Brennan was injured in the second quarter against Missouri. While he played the rest of that 45-41 loss, he didn’t practice in the days before the Florida game was postponed because of the Gators’ coronavirus cases.

The QB was injured when he lowered his shoulder into a hit near the sideline. LSU hasn’t specified what Brennan’s injury is and there was an assumption that he suffered a shoulder injury. But Brennan’s father told The Athletic on Monday that his son had suffered a torn abdominal muscle on the hit.

That’s obviously not an insignificant injury. And why Brennan seems unlikely to play on Saturday.

If Brennan doesn’t play, LSU (1-2) will be starting a true freshman quarterback in either TJ Finley or Max Johnson. Neither QB has thrown a pass so far this season and would be stepping into game action against a South Carolina team that knocked off No. 15 Auburn last weekend.

Brennan is 79-of-131 passing for 1,112 yards and 11 touchdowns and three interceptions in 2019 as LSU has averaged nearly 40 points per game.
