A luxurious Italian restaurant is coming to this historic waterfront building in Miami

The historic Miami Women’s Club in Edgewater, the location of one upscale restaurant that has drawn complaints from nearby residents, is about to become home to another.

David Grutman’s Groot Hospitality, the group behind such restaurants as Komodo, Swan, Key Club and Papi Steak, famous for its excessive celebration when it serves its $1,000 Wagyu steak, is joining forces with Tao Group Hospitality to open Casadonna, a waterfront Italian restaurant.

Casadonna — the name roughly translates to something like “house of women” — will be located on the ground floor of the building, which is also home to the luxury seafood spot Klaw.

The restaurant, which is 20,000 square feet, features indoor and outdoor dining and bar areas and will seat up to 366 guests. Designed by Ken Fulk, the space includes a covered atrium with a high ceiling, vaulted glass windows, striking patterned floors and elaborate chandeliers.

The menu specifics haven’t been released yet, but diners can expect the sort of dishes you’d find in coastal towns like Naples, Positano and Gaeta.

Klaw, which opened at the Miami Women’s Club building in 2022, is famous for its King Crab claws, which are flown in daily from Norway’s Barents Sea, and high quality meats from Nebraska. Opened by entrepreneur Sasha Krilov and international restaurateur Mikhail “Misha” Zelman, the restaurant faced criticism from neighbors at The Grand condominium about persistent kitchen odors and noise.

The project’s developer Pierre Heafey, who restored and renovated the building, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, emailed the Miami Herald that he had responded to complaints by replacing defective parts in pollution control units.

Groot Hospitality, also the parent company of nightclubs Story, LIV and the Bad Bunny-collaboration Gekko, plans to open Casadonna this summer.
