Watch: Motorist drove wrong way down down M62 with four flat tyres during police chase

This is the moment a motorist drove the wrong way down a motorway with four flat tyres during a police chase.

Harry Hosker, 27, has been jailed after he failed to stop for officers in Culcheth, Cheshire, when they deflated his car’s tyres with a stinger last Wednesday.

A police dashcam video showed them following his black Volkswagen Golf through back streets and eventually as it drove the wrong way down the M62 between junctions 11 and 10.

The vehicle came to a stop near junction 10 when Hosker stopped in an emergency refuge bay and attempted to make off on foot into nearby fields, police said.

A police bodycam showed him being arrested a short time later.

Hosker, of Glazebrook Lane, Rixton, was charged with dangerous driving, use of a false number plate, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and possession of Class B drugs (Cannabis).

He appeared at Chester Magistrates’ Court on Friday where he pleaded guilty to all the charges and was sentenced to one year in prison.

Officers on patrol had spotted his car on Holcroft Lane at around 7.50pm, which was displaying false number plates.

They followed the car as it travelled onto Warrington Road before a stinger was used to deflate the vehicle’s tyres as it entered the Birchwood area.

The driver refused to stop for officers despite having four flat tyres, so a pursuit was authorised.

Following the sentencing PC Dave Carr, from the Cheshire Police Roads and Crime Unit, said: “During the pursuit Hosker showed no regard for the safety of our officers or the other innocent road users, travelling at high speeds while having four flat tyres and even driving the wrong way down the motorway.

“However, despite his repeated attempts to evade officers, there really was nowhere to hide and he is now facing the consequences of his actions.”

In addition to his prison sentence, Hosker was also disqualified from driving for 54 months.
