Madison County coroner releases ID of man killed on Illinois 3 while looking for cans
A 70-year-old Madison man has been identified as the person fatally struck on Illinois 3 in Hartford, the Madison County coroner said Tuesday.
Larry L. Cox died when he was hit by a GMC Terrain early Monday morning while on northbound Illinois 3 south of Piasa Lane, according to a news release from Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn.
Cox apparently was collecting aluminum cans and was “standing in the lane of traffic when he was struck,” according to evidence found at the scene, Nonn said in the news release.
The driver of the GMC Terrain stopped at the scene and “is fully cooperating with” investigators, Nonn said.
The case remains under investigation by Illinois State Police, Hartford Police Department, Illinois State
Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, and the Madison County Coroner’s Office.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
