Maher Predicts How Trump Will Get Away With Installing Don Jr. in Future ‘Ruling Family’
Bill Maher has a theory about Vice President-elect J.D. Vance’s real role in the Donald Trump administration, and it’s not energizing white working-class voters.
“I think J.D. Vance is just a placeholder for Don Jr.,” he said of the Ohio senator and Hillbilly Elegy author.
According to Maher, the U.S. under Trump is following in the footsteps of countries like North Korea and Syria, where “they have elections, wink wink, but really it’s just the scion of the ruling family that takes over.”
Once the elder Trump does away with quote-unquote real elections, all he has to do is swap out his vice president for his son.
“I think the fact that [Vance and Trump Jr.] look alike makes it easier,” Maher said Sunday on his podcast Club Random. “They just put Don Jr. in there and they tell them it’s the same guy.”
Trump Jr. was instrumental in encouraging his dad to choose Vance as his running mate. After Vance’s campaign rallies failed to generate much excitement, the younger Trump tried to help bail him out on the campaign trail, with limited success.
Nevertheless, once the transition from liberal democracy to plutocracy is complete, Trump Jr. will be “chomping at the bit” to take his dad’s place, Maher predicted.
“It’s a very sort of Prince Charles situation... where Don Jr. is like, ‘Mom, would you please die?’” he said.
Queen Elizabeth died in 2022 at age 96 after 70 years on the throne, making her the longest-reigning British monarch of all time. King Charles was the longest-serving heir apparent and oldest person to succeed the British throne when he became king at age 73.
And while the Founding Fathers fought an entire war just to get away from ruling families, Maher noted that the MAGA-verse has no qualms with the pending Trump family takeover.
“And of course, their fans love this,” he said.
