No life-threatening injuries after head-on collision on Pitts Memorial Drive

Police say there were no serious injuries, but plenty of damage, after a crash on Pitts Memorial Drive in St. John's Monday.

Two vehicles were badly damaged in the westbound lane of the road, and witnesses told CBC News that a Honda Civic lost control, crossed the median and hit a pickup head on.

Both drivers were transported to hospital. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) said there were no life-threatening injuries.

It's believed the car was traveling east and the truck was going west. A witness also said at least one of the vehicles was speeding.

The RNC closed both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Pitts Memorial Drive between Kilbride and the Commonwealth Avenue exits, and drivers were asked to find alternate routes.

The highway reopened to traffic around 4 p.m.
