'Major' Snow Creates Traffic Problems Across Toronto

The City of Toronto declared a “major snow storm condition” to deal with snow removal on Monday, January 17, after a winter storm hit the region.

Up to 60 centimeters (about 23.6 inches) of snowfall was expected in Toronto while blowing snow would “significantly” reduce visibility, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. The City of Toronto reported five centimeters, or around two inches, per hour during peak snowfall on Monday.

Several highways were temporarily closed, police said, as heavy snow and icy conditions caused traffic incidents.
