Male youth charged with spree of sexual assaults in north Edmonton

Edmonton police have charged a male youth with a series of sexual assaults in the city's northeast.

Between May 24 and June 22, five separate sexual assaults were reported to police, all within the Eaux Claires neighbourhood.

Police said all the assaults occurred along a walking path south of 164th Avenue, between 84th and 95th streets.

In each incident, a young male is alleged to have approached a female on the path, grabbing them over their clothing.

One of the women was aggressively shoved to the ground, police said. Another was kissed on the lips, they said.

Diana Lutz has lived in the area for 12 years. She said her family has been debating putting up cameras because it seems like crime is up in the neighbourhood.

"I used to run in the mornings and I stopped doing that. I go to a gym now, just because of all the things you hear," said Lutz.

"It's scary. You just hope that it doesn't happen too close to home."

The youth has been charged with five counts of sexual assault. He can't be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
