Man in 20s in life-threatening condition after shooting in East York: Toronto paramedics

A man in his twenties has been rushed to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition after a shooting in East York, Toronto paramedics say.

Deputy Commander Evert Steenge said paramedics were called to the scene on Meighen Avenue in the Victoria Park and Dawes Road area at 9 p.m. Saturday for reports of a shooting.

That's where they located the man suffering serious gunshot wounds.

"When we got here, there was a male on the ground who was non-responsive," Toronto police Sgt. David Dube said from the scene, adding that several shell casings were found on the ground.

Officers are now canvassing the neighbourhood for information, Dube said. Already, there have been reports of a vehicle fleeing the area as well as a possible male suspect, he said.

Few other details are available, such as whether the victim was a resident of the area or just visiting, Dube said.

"We're trying to figure out exactly what happened."

Anyone with information is asked to contact 54 Division at 416-808-5400.
