Man, 27, dies after workplace incident at oil rig near Estevan, Sask.
Another worker has died in Saskatchewan, this time after an incident at a rigging operation near Alameda, Sask., about 60 kilometres east of Estevan.
Panther Drilling said its worker died Monday. The company operates oil rigs in southeast Saskatchewan.
CBC has confirmed that the worker was 27-year-old Dustin Pratt from Estevan.
The drilling contractor says it's devastated by the tragedy, in which a "wonderful young man" lost his life.
"Our thoughts and prayers right now are with his family," said Panther Drilling president Cory Hicks in an email statement.
Pratt was an avid hockey player with the Bienfait Coalers.
Kyle Garagan, player representative for the Coalers, said the team was saddened and shocked by the news.
"He was just a great team player, and he's a guy that's got an infectious smile and was well liked by everybody on our team," Garagan said.
"Everybody gets a little bit happier when Dustin's around."
Garagan said deaths in the oil industry affect everyone in the Estevan area.
"There's people that may not even know him that are in the oil field, in the industry. It shakes everybody up. It's felt throughout everybody.
The funeral for Pratt is being held Friday at the St. John the Baptist Church in Estevan.
Saskatchewan's Occupational Health and Safety division is investigating the incident.
String of workplace incidents in Saskatchewan
Monday's incident is the third in two weeks involving harm in the workplace.
The others happened at Agrium's Vanscoy potash mine near Saskatoon.
Chad Wiklun, 29, died Aug. 10 following an incident at that mine. On Sunday, another man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
Another man was killed in late July after an industrial accident at the construction site of Saskatchewan's children's hospital.
