Man, 27, killed in car crash on Merivale Road

One man is dead and a second is in serious condition after a vehicle struck a pole at the intersection of Merivale Road and Raven Avenue just after 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Paramedics said two people were trapped inside the car which broke into multiple segments in the collision.

A 27-year-old man was found with several severe injuries and was in cardiac arrest, according to paramedics. After he was removed from the car, paramedics tried to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters also pulled a 19-year-old man from the wreckage. Paramedics say he sustained critical injuries to his legs, but he was able to remain conscious.

He was taken to the Ottawa Hospital trauma centre in serious condition.

Ottawa police are investigating and a portion of Merivale Road, between Larose Avenue and Shillington Avenue, was closed for several hours Saturday morning.
