Man dies in drowning in Cape Breton's Juniper Mountain

A 44-year-old man is dead after what Cape Breton Regional Police said appears to have been a tragic drowning accident in Juniper Mountain, N.S., Friday afternoon.

Staff Sgt. Ken O'Neill said they were called around 2:20 p.m. to Grand Mira South Road. He said that when officers arrived paramedics were already working on an unconscious man.

"Unfortunately, after a period of time, the male could not be revived and was pronounced deceased," he said.

O'Neill said they spoke with witnesses who said the man was out on the water with his sister when something happened.

"Probably what we're dealing with is a tragic accident. What we do know is a Sea-Doo was involved and the male was on the Sea-Doo as well as his sister," he said.

It's not known if the man was driving the Sea-Doo, or how he ended up in the water. O'Neill said that is all part of the investigation.

The woman was taken to Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

"She has some minor injuries, but she's quite distraught with the circumstances," O'Neill said.

The man's identity has not been disclosed.
