Man, 52, dies after SUV hits centre median, strikes light pole, crashes through fence

Toronto police say a man, 52, has died of his injuries after his SUV veered off the road and crashed near Kingston Road and Guildwood Parkway in Scarborough early Sunday.

Police said they received a call about the single vehicle crash at 12:41 a.m. on Sunday.

In a news release, police said the man was driving a 2004 Buick Rainier, eastbound on Kingston Road near Guildwood Parkway, when the SUV mounted the centre median that separates eastbound and westbound traffic.

The vehicle hit a light pole, crossed to the south side of Kingston Road, mounted the curb, crashed through a fence and then came to rest, police say.

Police said the man was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead there.

Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook, spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service, said on Monday that police have not yet determined why the man lost control of his vehicle.

She said police are continuing to investigate and officers are seeking witnesses to the crash.

Police closed a stretch of Kingston Road after the crash to allow officers to piece together what happened.
