Discovery of man's body in burned SUV not considered suspicious

Calgary police say the death of an elderly man discovered in a SUV found burning on a northeast street is not considered suspicious.

Emergency crews were called to the 600 block of Coral Springs Blvd. N.E. at about 1:45 p.m. on Saturday for reports of an SUV being engulfed in flames.

Firefighters doused the blaze and a man's body was discovered inside the vehicle.

An elderly woman was then found nearby suffering undetermined injuries and was taken to Foothills hospital in serious but stable condition. EMS said the woman was not injured by the fire.

Police say the pair are known to each other and the vehicle is registered to an address near where it was found.
