Man arrested for attempted murder in Leamington

A 32-year-old man has been arrested for attempted murder after an attack in Leamington early Easter Sunday.

Ontario Provincial Police responded to an incident at 2:50 a.m around the area of Oak Street East and Plumbrook Drive.

According to an OPP media release, a 42-year-old Leamington man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following the attack.

What appeared to be a trail of blood was noticeable on the ground as the OPP's crime unit, emergency response team, canine unit and forensic identification and photographic services all attended the scene.

Police did not release any information until almost 17 hours after the incident and are not saying what kind of attack it was.

Nearby residents told CBC News they heard the man was stabbed with a machete.

The investigation is continuing under the direction of acting Det. Insp. Randy Wright of the OPP's criminal investigation branch.
