Police have arrested a man in connection with a home invasion and sexual assault in Mayo last week.

Yukon RCMP announced the arrest in a news release on Saturday.

The accused is alleged to have knocked on a woman's door, then forced his way inside and sexually assaulted her, after which he demanded she drive him to Whitehorse.

In a news release on Thursday, police said the woman escaped the man by first intentionally driving her car into a light pole and then yelling for help after the man continued to restrain her.

The man was believed to have been driving a truck stolen from Yukon Wildland Fire Management, which police say has now been recovered.

The accused's name was not included in Saturday's release.

"More details will be released at a later date. Mayo RCMP would like to thank the public for all their assistance with this investigation," the release said.
