Man arrested after stabbing at Lethbridge traffic light

Lethbridge man charged with sexually assaulting woman in basement of house for sale

Police have arrested a man in Lethbridge, Alta., after a violent confrontation broke out Monday when two vehicles were stopped at a red light.

The Lethbridge Police Service said the occupants of the two vehicles had been involved in a physical altercation earlier in the day.

The fight resumed when both vehicles stopped red light at the intersection of Third Avenue and 12th Street S. at about noon.

Window smashed with snow brush

Police said a 26-year-old man hopped out of his vehicle and smashed the other vehicle's window with a snow brush. The man and woman in the other vehicle got out to confront him.

The first man tried to hit the 27-year-old woman, police said, but the 30-year-old man with her intervened and was hit across the back.

This prompted the older man to stab the 26-year-old multiple times and leave him on the road before driving off, police said.

A passenger inside the stabbing victim's vehicle drove him to Chinook Regional Hospital. He remains there in serious condition.

Police said they located William Edward Fick, 30, a short time later. He has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He's in custody awaiting an interim release hearing.

Police are investigating and are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the stabbing to call 403-328-4444.
