Man arrives at Wichita hospital with gunshot wound to the head

A 21-year-old Wichita man who showed up at a hospital with a gunshot wound to the head remained stable Friday afternoon.

Police were called at 4:38 a.m. Thursday after the man arrived at Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph. He was then transported to St. Francis.

He’s in stable condition, a hospital official said around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Police said he’s expected to survive.

Police would not say if anyone was in custody.

The shooting happened in the 1300 block of North Williamsburg, which is near 13th and Edgemoor.

“Due to the urgency of care, officers could not interview the victim,” police said Friday. “Investigators are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting.”
