Man charged in string of break-ins that targeted elderly women

Two people have been charged in connection with a brutal assault last fall that left a man with serious injuries.

Police arrested a 39-year-old man Thursday and 31-year-old woman on March 15 in relation to the serious assault of a 29-year-old man on Nov. 23, 2016.

Emergency crews found the 29-year-old on Princess Street, between Henry and Logan avenues, and rushed him to hospital with in critical condition. He received treatment and has since been released from hospital, Const. Rob Carver told reporters Friday in Winnipeg.

The 39-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, while the 31-year-old woman has been charged with assault and probation violation.

Both remain in custody.

Correction : A previous version of this story stated a 39-year-old man had been charged with second-degree murder. In fact, he was charged with attempted murder.(Mar 24, 2017 12:59 PM)
