Man charged for assault on motionless man in Sengkang void deck
SINGAPORE — A man who was filmed stomping on another man who lay on the ground was charged in court on Thursday (24 September).
Lee Sai Hua, 45, was charged with one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to one Heah Swee Heng at the void deck of Block 182A Rivervale Crescent, by kicking, punching him, stamping and slapping Heah on his head.
Heng is said to have sustained a facial fracture from the assault, which took place on Tuesday, and was filmed and disseminated online.
In the video, Lee, carrying a plastic bag, is seen attacking Heng as the latter lies face up on the floor. Lee alternatively kicks, punches, slaps and stomps on Heng, who remains motionless throughout. At one point, Lee gestures at Heng as well.
The police were alerted to the fight at 3.44pm. By the time officers arrived on the scene, Lee, a Singaporean, had fled. Heng was then conveyed conscious to Sengkang General Hospital.
Heng is currently seeking treatment there and is in a stable condition, according to the police.
Officers managed to establish Lee’s identity through police cameras and ground enquiries. Lee was arrested within hours.
If convicted of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, he faces a jail term of up to ten years, and a fine or caning.
