A man has been arrested in Behchokǫ̀, N.W.T. after police say he held three people against their will with a weapon.

The man, 41-year-old David Wedzin, has been charged with pointing a firearm, uttering threats, obstructing an officer and resisting an officer.

In a Tuesday news release, RCMP said they received a report on Sunday that two people had escaped from a home after being confined by an armed man. Police said they soon learned that a third person was still inside and being held.

A special emergency response team, police dog services and crisis negotiators were dispatched to the residence.

"The accused was contacted by negotiators and departed the residence," RCMP said.

Police did not specify what happened next, other than that "he was taken into custody," and "no injuries were reported as a result of this occurrence."

Wedzin is scheduled to appear in court on July 16.
