Man’s coffee run leads to huge SC lottery win — but his wife didn’t believe it

A South Carolina man stopped for a cup of coffee when he made the decision to buy a $10 scratch-off lottery ticket.

That ticket ended up winning big.

The man told lottery officials he was eager to show his wife the $500,000 winning ticket, but her reaction was not what he expected.

“When she saw it, she thought it was a fake,” he told lottery officials.

The most the man had ever won in the lottery was $300, so he said this was a “shock.”

“I’d like to win many times more,” he said. “But it was a great once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Once his wife overcame her disbelief, the couple used the money to pay off their debt and saved the rest “for their kids’ future.”

The man beat odds of 1 in 660,000 to win $500,000. There are two more top prizes remaining.

The winning ticket was sold in a gas station in Woodruff, about 20 miles south of Spartanburg.
