Man creates giant ice carousel on frozen lake in Finland
The cold, grey winter days can make anyone go stir crazy. That’s probably why an inventor in Finland decided to turn his winter blues around (and around and around) by building an enormous ice carousel.
Using a huge chainsaw and a solar-powered outboard boat motor, Janne Käpylehto crafted the ice carousel on a frozen lake near his home.
Nyt alkaa olla karusellin sahauskoneisto riittävän järeä. Kuvassa stihl 661. Maailman paras moottorisaha. #stihl pic.twitter.com/2COO57xt4W

Oho! Kuinka valtava karuselli tulossa? halkaisija? Oikein arvanneelle palkinto. https://t.co/Hh9uBnlF2l pic.twitter.com/bA4FXW0Ye2

According to one report, the spinning slab of ice is roughly 57 meters wide and weighs up to one million kilograms.
Spectacular aerial video of the ice carousel shows people taking a spin on it. Käpylehto even put a sauna on it, along with a barbeque for grilling sausages.
And it doesn’t sound like Käpylehto is ready to put his tools away anytime soon, despite the frigid temperatures and intense labour involved. He said the next ice carousel he builds will be a “50-meter giant with [a] sauna, PV plant, electric outboard motors, stage and band.”
