Man killed outside Vaughan social club was targeted, police believe

Police in York Region believe a 55-year-old man shot and killed outside a Vaughan banquet hall Friday night was targeted.

On Saturday, police identified Domenic Triumbari as the victim of the fatal shooting, which took place Friday evening outside Club Consenza on Regina Road in the Highway 7 and Martin Grove Road area.

Officers were called to the scene just after 8 p.m. for reports of a shooting. They arrived to find Triumbari suffering gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are now searching for a suspect described as wearing dark clothing, who they say fled the scene in a vehicle. There is no vehicle description available.

Earlier on Saturday, police told CBC News they do not believe there is any threat to public safety.

But speaking to reporters Saturday afternoon Const. Andy Pattenden said police said they are appealing for any witnesses that might have seen or heard anything in the Regina Road area to come forward. They are also looking for dashcam or video surveillance footage.

"It's very important that we have people come forward and cooperate so that we can figure out who this person is and get the person and that gun off the street," said Pattenden.

Investigators haven't confirmed any links to organized crime or any other incidents, but Pattenden said they are keeping an open mind.

Triumbari is York Region's fifth homicide victim of 2017.
