Police identify man who died after shooting in west end Toronto

Toronto police have identified a man who died after he was shot while walking on a sidewalk in the west end early Saturday.

Police said Craig Campbell, 42, of Toronto, died of his injuries.

The shooting happened on Oakwood Avenue south of Vaughan Road. Police officers in the area heard gunfire at about 1:40 a.m. and rushed to the scene. Callers also reported hearing the sounds of gunshots.

When officers arrived, they found Campbell with very serious gunshot wounds. 

Toronto paramedics rushed him to a trauma centre through an emergency run. He was without vital signs and he was pronounced dead in hospital.

Homicide detectives are now investigating.

Police taped off the area as officers collected evidence at the scene and looked for surveillance camera footage from nearby businesses.

A dark-coloured SUV was seen fleeing the area.

Anyone with security camera video or dashboard camera video is urged to come forward.
