Toronto police say Habil Abdilahi Hassan, 21, is dead following a shooting in the city's west end.

Police were called shortly after 5:40 p.m. on Saturday with reports of two men with gunshot wounds in a car near Tallon Road and Trehorne Drive.

Hassan was found unconscious and taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries, police say. The other man's injuries were not life-threatening.

Two men suspected of being involved in the shooting were seen fleeing the scene in a car that police say "became involved in a collision."

Police recovered a loaded weapon in the car, but the men fled on foot.

Officers, including those from the K9 unit, did a search of the area but were not successful in locating the suspects.

The homicide squad is investigating.

Both suspects are described as Black men between the ages of 20 and 25 years old. One man was wearing a dark coat with dark pants, according to police, while the other was wearing light coloured jeans and a light-blue surgical mask.

Police are asking anyone with information to reach out, either by calling police directly at 416-808-7400 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.

The homicide squad is now investigating.
