Police identify Toronto man shot dead outside nightclub

Thuan (Tony) Nguyen, 25, died after being shot multiple times outside a restaurant on Signet Drive on Feb. 24, 2013.

Toronto police have identified the man shot dead outside a nightclub on Sunday morning, though the exact circumstances of the shooting are not yet clear.

Det.-Sgt. Brian Borg told reporters that police were called to 425 Signet Dr., in a strip mall area near Weston Road and Steeles Avenue West, just after 5 a.m. Sunday.

At the scene they found a male victim in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A subsequent police news release identified the victim as 25-year-old Thuan (Tony) Nguyen of Toronto.

"We believe that he was here at this location attending a nightclub…with a number of friends," Borg said.

"There was an incident that occurred outside in the parking lot sometime around 5 a.m., resulting in a number of shots being fired and the individual being struck and obviously dying here at the scene."

The police release identified the name of the club as the VY VY Restaurant and Lounge.

Investigators are now looking for a male suspect who left the club in a vehicle.

Borg described the suspect as an Asian male in his mid-20s, who wore dark clothing and stands between 5'5" and 5'6".

Police are receiving co-operation from witnesses, but still need to talk to others who attended the club last night.

"We still have a lot of information to gather and a lot of people that we need to speak with," he said.
